2025 MotoGP teams preview

The 2025 FIM MotoGP World Championship approaches and the teams and riders are ready to fight for the title! Last year, the 75th anniversary season saw new records made and broken, but will it happen again this year? Here are the 2025 MotoGP factory and independent team line-ups!

A. Factory teams
2024 was a very dominant but yet another roller-coaster season for Ducati, as the Bologna-based manufacturer only managed to clinch constructors and teams world titles, but they failed to win the riders' world title which won by satelite Prima Pramac Racing rider Jorge Martin, leaving Francesco Bagnaia's title defense ten points cut short. Last season, the Ducati Desmosedici GP24 took a record-breaking 19 Grand Prix race wins out of 20 GP races contested: 11 by Pecco Bagnaia, 3 each by Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin and 2 by Enea Bastianini. This season, in 2025, the factory Ducati Corse squad enters a new era of dominance with Pecco and Marc in a race for the 2025 world title. Team bosses Luigi Dall'Igna and Davide Tardozzi stated that 2025 will be yet another dominant season for Ducati in the race for the title. They also feared that their rivals Aprilia and KTM will also improve throughout 2025 to make the title race more competitive.

The Noale-based factory squad will bring judgement day in 2025 as reigning world champion Jorge Martin will answer the Aprilia title challenge against Ducati factory riders Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez. For 2025, the #89 rider will use the #1 plate in his attempt to defend his world title he won in 2024 with Pramac Ducati. Can the Martinator become Aprilia's first ever MotoGP world champion in 2025?

2025 sees new refreshments for KTM: Aki Ajo became the new team boss and 2024 rookie sensation Pedro Acosta drafted to the factory squad in a multi-year deal. Ajo and Pit Beirer stated that the 2025 RC16 is "ready to race" for the title after the 2024 RC16 suffered another winless season and were not "race-ready".

2024 saw another winless season for Yamaha after the Iwata-based team unable to pick up YZR-M1 into race podiums and wins. And for 2025, Yamaha reshuffled the team management while retaining Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins for the line-up. Lin Jarvis, who had been 25 years as the team principal, stepped down and being succeeded by Massimo Meregalli. Jarvis remained with Yamaha, now serves as senior vice-president of marketing and sales for Yamaha Motor Company.

After ending 30-year partnership with Repsol, the Honda HRC factory team signed a multi-year contract with Castrol as its major sponsor. Castrol had previously became the technical partner for Honda factory and works teams from mid 1960s until early 1990s. The partnership helped the NSR500 bike and its riders Freddie Spencer and Wayne Gardner to win the world titles. Today, they will reclaim the title with RC213V bike and its current riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini.

B. Independent teams
For 2025, Gresini Racing became the lead Ducati satelite team following Pramac's transition from Ducati to Yamaha. Alex Marquez will use the GP24 bike while rookie Fermin Aldeguer will race with GP23. Team boss Nadia Gresini promised that the team will replicate last year's success in 2025.

After failing to reach the winning prospect in 2024, the Pertamina Lubricants VR46 Racing Team will keep continue their winning prospect for 2025, with Fabio DiGiannantonio and Franco Morbidelli.

3. Trackhouse Racing
The American-based team welcomed Raul Fernandez and 2024 Moto2 world champion Ai Ogura as their MotoGP target prospect, alongside Ross Chastain, Connor Zilich and Shane Van Gisbergen for NASCAR title prospect. For 2025 they'll use Aprilia RS-GP for MotoGP title race, while using Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for NASCAR.

For more than 35 years Herve Poncharal (who also IRTA president) led the Tech3 team for success. This year in 2025, the team introduced the Beast Enea Bastianini and record-making TopGun Maverick Vinales for 2025 winning target.

After a 20-year collaboration with Ducati, Pramac Racing began new chapter as Yamaha satelite team for the next seven years. Jack Miller has been part of the team when it was backed by Ducati from 2018 to 2020. The Australian rider rejoined the team with Miguel Oliveira as his teammate. Pramac Racing also previously supplied Yamaha YZR500 and YZR-M1 bikes in early 2000s when it was managed by Luis D'Antin under D'Antin-Pramac Racing brand name.

After Castrol became main sponsor for Honda HRC factory team, the LCR Honda officially renamed in 2025 as LCR Honda Custom for Johann Zarco, and LCR Honda Team Asia for Thai rookie Somkiat Chantra; while Castrol and Idemitsu remained technical sponsors for each.
