Bastianini shines bright in epic Qatar GP
LOSAIL – Enea Bastianini came to MotoGP premier class with one of his ambitions: becoming a MotoGP race winner. And the 2022 season opener Qatar Grand Prix proved the impeccable performance of the 23 year-old Gresini Ducati rider who dedicates his race victory to the late team founder Fousto Gresini.
Starting 2nd on the grid, Bastianini was slipped by the two Repsol Honda riders Pol Espargaro and Marc Marquez in early stages of the race. Courageously, the Italian sophomore took over the race lead within five laps remaining after overtaking both Espargaro and Marquez within patience.
This became Bastianini's first ever premier class victory in his career, and the Gresini team's 18-year winning draught ended since 2004 Qatar GP last won by Sete Gibernau.

Meanwhile, the Qatar GP saw the two factory Ducati riders Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia didn't find high expectations to win the race, as Miller retired from the race due to mechanical problems and Bagnaia being collided with pole-sitter Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin. Defending world champion Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) also made rough start of the season after finished ninth in season-opening race at Losail circuit.
The 2nd round of 2022 MotoGP World Championship will be held at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit on March 18-20 for Indonesian GP.
